The Chief Prosecutor of Hungary asks the European Parliament to lift the immunity of MEP Péter Magyar, who is charged with theft.
Here are the facts about the case:
Péter Magyar was at a nightclub in Budapest in the early hours of June 21, 2024, where according to eyewitness testimony Magyar was behaving scandalously, and was making inappropriate advances towards women.
According to the charge, the victim of the criminal case filmed Magyar's behaviour with his phone, after which Magyar got in an altercation with him. Then Magyar grabbed the phone from the victim's hand, and pocketed it. Magyar was subsequently removed from the nightclub by security. Once outside, Péter Magyar threw the stolen phone into the Danube river.
In similar criminal cases the common practice within the EP is to waive the immunity of the MEP in question. Immunity is not there to avoid the responsibility of common crimes.Az objektív tájékozódás érdekében javasoljuk, hogy a híreknek / eseményeknek több külön forrásnál is nézz utána!
